Ulleung Airport Status and Development Plan Proposal Briefing Held

On the 28th, a report on the current status and proposed development directions for Ulleung Airport was held at the Ulleung-gun Office (2nd conference room).

This report was organized by SUMAIR Co., Ltd., an airline established in November 2022 with the goal of specializing in flights to island areas. The purpose was to share strategies with Ulleung-gun for the safe opening of Ulleung Airport and the sustainable development of regional air transportation, as well as to strengthen the cooperative system between SUMAIR Co., Ltd. and Ulleung-gun.

Attendees at the report included officials from SUMAIR Co., Ltd. (CEO: Choi Yong-deok) and key Ulleung-gun officials, including the Ulleung County Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The agenda proceeded with an introduction to the main status of the Ulleung Airport construction project, proposals for the construction direction of Ulleung Airport for safe opening, and a Q&A session on the proposals. During the session, SUMAIR Co., Ltd. officials proposed comprehensive and systematic development directions for the safe opening of Ulleung Airport, including changing aircraft flight standards from Visual Flight Rules (VFR) to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), installing Instrument Landing System (ILS), expanding the Runway End Safety Area (RESA), and constructing a Displaced Threshold.

Ulleung County Mayor Nam Han-kwon stated, "Ulleung Airport is a long-cherished project for the county residents and a core facility for regional development, so its safe opening is of utmost importance." He added, "It was very meaningful to share SUMAIR Co., Ltd.'s expertise and practical proposals through this report. We will continue to cooperate closely with SUMAIR Co., Ltd. and relevant organizations to do our best for the safe opening of Ulleung Airport in 2028."
